Rolling processes suitable for rolls of different materials are as follows:
Cast iron roll
Chilled cast iron roll: commonly used in plate, wire, profile, pipe finishing mill stand. For example, in the finishing rolling stage of the small wire mill, the chilled cast iron roll can ensure the dimensional accuracy and surface quality of the wire by its high surface hardness and certain wear resistance.
Ductile iron roll: suitable for coarse and medium rolling stand of profiles, wires and pipes. In the rough rolling process of some small steel mills, the nodular cast iron rolls can withstand larger rolling forces and have better thermal cracking resistance.
High chromium cast iron rolls: suitable for small sections, wire mill finishing stands and strip pre-finishing stands. In the pre-finishing stage of hot rolled strip, the high chromium cast iron roll can resist the wear at high temperature, maintain the finish of the roll surface, and help to improve the surface quality of the strip.
Cast steel roll
Common alloy cast steel rolls: common alloy cast steel rolls with eutectoid composition are often used in large blooming, billet, roughing stands and support rolls of steel plate and hot and cold strip mills with large rolling and heat loads. Hypereutectoid ordinary alloy cast steel rolls are mostly used in rough rolling and middle rolling stand of section steel with low rolling load.
High chromium steel roll: suitable for coarse rolling back frame and fine rolling front frame, it can maintain good wear resistance and thermal fatigue resistance under high temperature and large rolling force, and can also be used for cold rolling strip work roll, which is helpful to improve the surface quality and dimensional accuracy of cold rolling strip.
Forged steel roll
Hot roll: commonly used for billet, large roughing mill stand, plate steel roughing mill stand, etc. In the process of rough rolling of slab in large iron and steel plant, the forged steel hot roll can withstand huge rolling force and heat load to ensure smooth rolling of slab.
Cold roll: used for cold rolling strip work rolls, profiles and welded pipe forming rolls, etc. In the production of cold rolled strip, the cold roll of forged steel requires very high hardness, surface finish and dimensional accuracy to produce high quality cold rolled strip products.
Back-up roll: used in cold and hot strip rolling mill, it can provide stable support for work roll, withstand rolling force transmitted by work roll, and ensure the stability of rolling process and product quality.
Composite roll
Centrifugal casting composite roll: commonly used in tropical rolling mill, profile and wire rolling mill. For example, in the finishing mill stand of the tropical mill, the outer layer of the centrifugal cast composite roll can resist the wear of the rolled piece, and the strong and ductile material of the core can withstand the rolling force, improving the overall performance of the roll.
Jet deposition composite roll: suitable for high performance steel rolling, special alloy rolling and other fields requiring high roll performance. When rolling some special steels such as superalloy and stainless steel, the spray deposition composite roll can meet the high requirements of abrasion resistance, thermal fatigue resistance and strength and toughness.
Roll of other materials
Powder metallurgy rolls: such as tungsten carbide rolls, suitable for small, wire finishing mill stand and cold rolling small steel in the fine rolling process of small precision wire, the high hardness and wear resistance of tungsten carbide rolls can ensure the high precision and surface quality of wire.
Coated roller: Especially suitable for high-speed rolling of light metals, such as rolling aluminum foil and other light metals, the coated roller can increase friction, prevent the metal from slipping, while protecting the metal surface from scratches.
